Achieving longevity within the martial arts is a task like no other. Millions around the world have been introduce to the martial art but only a fraction make it to black belt and of that small percentage very few attain higher black belt levels. Over a span of 2 decades Oren Headen (Sa Bum Nym, Chief Instructor) has diligently and relentlessly endured the training, hardships and dedication required to excel in the martial arts. As a youth Sa Bum Nym was introduced to the martial arts. His Parents (Phillip & Nadine Headen) instilled the thirst for the martial arts by enrolling Sa Bum Nym in martial arts classes with one of his father's previous instructors in the art of Shuri Ryu. Sa Bum Nym has been blessed to learn from one of the few internationally certified 8th Dan Black Belts in the world (J. Venson). It was during these years that Sa Bum Nym Headen was first introduced to the basics of martial arts and set on his life-long journey.
After relocating to the south side of Chicago, Sa Bum Nym began studing a new martial art. The next 20 years Sa Bum Nym devoted himself to studying the art of Kuk Sool at Kuk Sool Won of Chicago. Starting out the lowest rank over the next 2 decades Sa Bum Nym rose among the ranks to become the second highest ranking Kuk Sool practitioner in the Chicagoland area. During this time Sa Bum Nym competed in hundreds of tournaments locally, nationally and internationally. His continual practice and dedication awarded him many grand championship titles throughout the country, including placing in every event at the World Kuk Sool Won Tournament in Korea, in 2002.

In 1993, at a seminar in Chicago, IL, Sa Bum Nym Oren Headen was introduced formally to Chief Master Marlin Sims of the United Martial Science Federation. Sims is currently accepted as one of the best Martial Artists in Traditional Korean Martial Arts and the highest ranking African-Amercian Kuk Sool Master in the world. It was at this grueling workshop that their two paths would meet. Over the next 17 years Sa Bum Nym attended several seminars, workshops and classes with Chief Master Marlin Sims. In August of 2006 Sa Bum Nym officially enrolled in the United Martial Science Federation and became a direct student of Chief Master Marlin Sims. For the last two years, Sa Bum Nym Headen has become an instrumental part of the United Martial Science Federation and has completed the requirements to become promoted to Chief Instructor of the Midwest Region in 2007.

In January 2003 Sa Bum Nym Headen and colleagues embarked on a new journey within the martial arts. Sa Bum Nym created Art of the Warrior, Martial Arts Magazine. Combining his love for martial arts and graphics arts seemed to be a prefect fit. Over the next 6 years Sa Bum Nym, with the help and support of many others, has been fortunate to tour the world interviewing, training and promoting this new Martial Arts Magazine. To date this independent publication has produced over 75k magazines and has readership all over the world.
On June 23, 2007, Sa Bum Nym Oren was awarded with the International Martial Arts Spirit Award presented to him by Grand Master Al Tracey, Sa Bum Nym won the Midwest Regional Self-Defense Title in March 2007, Rank number 1 in Self-Defense for the Professional Karate Commission Region 1 2007 competition year, became an internationally published freelance writer and photographer for Inside Kung Fu, executive produced Martial Arts DVD Series, and co-authored "100 ways to stop an Attacker in 5 moves or less. "

Sa Bum Nym Headen now brings his 20 years of martial arts experience to the forefront in order to produce one of the most productive, educational and experienced Martial Science schools in the region. Sa Bum Nym Oren Headen's quest for martial skill, knowledge and development has just began. With each training session he understands and develops more and more. It is this aspect of his life that has touched thousands of individuals around the world. Whether it be through teaching, training or his international publication, (Art of the Warrior, Martial Arts Magazine) Sa Bum Nym has touched countless individuals in a positive and constructive manner.
